Bioassays
Athenix researchers are experts at developing and conducting bioassays to screen our extensive microbial collection against the major insect pests of corn, cotton, and soybeans such as the European corn borer, corn earworm, fall armyworm, black cutworm, and corn rootworm. We are screening both Bacillus and non-Bacillus strains, emphasizing non-Bt strains for biological activities that are likely to represent new modes of action.
Our scientists have already discovered a novel in vitro bioassay for soybean cyst nematode – an obligate parasite – that is unique in the industry. Coupled with our proteome interaction assay for identifying proteins active against target pests, these innovative technologies give Athenix an advantage in discovering new genes for use in our input traits program.
